Barney's is an asset to them.[/quote] normally you would be right because normally hedge funds do not take controlling majority stakes in companies.....that's more of a PE thing. however in this case perry has controlling stake in barney's and has a significant minority of seats on the barney's board. in this sense, he indirectly has a lot to do with how the retail operation is run. this is precisely why lots of hedge funds don't take controlling interests because they want to be in and out of an asset class with more flexibility than PE. it's like what sears/kmart is for eddie lampert. no, perry doesn't directly manage the floor employees...but since he has huge power through the board, he has huge power on what the retail culture is like.
