It makes sense that if you get in at school #5 you are taken off the waitlists for schools you gave a lower preference but not a higher. What if a kid gets in in February then moves before August? How does the school replace the child without a waitlist to pull from?[/quote] I think the wording in the article is confusing, but no where does it say that you are locked out of your higher choices. It would make no sense for schools not to maintain any kind of waitlist, since as you mention, people may move, or go private, or whatever. I think the point of the unified lottery is to streamline the process for parents, and also to make sure that people are not holding spots at multiple schools.[/quote]
