:) Thanks everyone. Great support from you all. So the night before the meeting, we sent them the email and pictures. They were not very happy. So we asked them a bunch of questions during the meeting and here are the answers - a) Kids versus nurse ratio ? ++ 700 kids and one nurse, she takes Tuesday off :) b) Special aides in school to support special needs kids? ++ None, teachers and nurse manage the show. Each class has (1st grade) 18-20 kids with 2-3 SN kids. c) Do you know about kabuki syndrome and the health-plan on his file from the doctor? Why is he being allowed to clean his own poop all over his body and why was he allowed to go himself when he is not capable? ++ No answer d) Last year you guys called us when there was such an accident and we cleaned him up ++ Vice principal says, that's a good idea, maybe we can call them when we have accidents e) So are you saying the county has no service to support this and one of have to quit our job and be on stand by? ++ We'll call the SN division and find out ..was the answer As the next steps - a) we have lodged a complaint with the county, send the pictures as well. waiting for updates b) We are looking for a special needs advocate in Northern Virginia. We would like this person to help us with all the SN related issues and be our advocate and represent us during school meetings/IEP sessions etc. All recommendations are appreciated! Please do let us know. Thanks for all your help.
Document all of this in a letter to all that were in the meeting. Start with "As we discussed at our meeting (date of meeting), 1, 2, 3,. Please let us know if you have anything to add." If they do not respond within one week, resend email again (including the original email) with SECOND REQUEST in the title and bcc the Superintendent of Schools. Good luck, I am sorry your DC has had to go through this.
