Did you look at the report? ^^^^^ Apparently not but that's ok. You have this hate for DCPS and it is all good in the scheme of things. We hate you too.
Nope. No hate for DC, just embarrassment and despair. People here have talked about the avg # of students in a school, as if that is the problem. The top BASIS schools (#3 and #5) had about the same # of students as our top schools, and VA and MD and TJ make it clear that this is not the problem. Someone also mentioned student teacher ratios. About the same. Finally, our top schools, who rate terribly on college readiness, are mostly selective - like #2 TJ - so that cannot be the problem either. I am copying the top stats from DC, MD, and VA, and unless someone wants AGAIN to refer to our problem as "demographic" - read too many [poor] black kids, and black kids are stupid, people here ought to care. We cannot stay in denial because our kids are paying the price, and should be furious because we are being cheated - by whom and how I have no idea, but we are graduating a lot of students from our "top" high schools who are probably not ready for anything but community college or ITT tech. NOT ok with me. This is the first time I have had kids old enough to look at where we stand and now I REALLY understand why people feel they have to move to Md and VA if they don't have the $ to pay the freight for private and are not zoned for Deal/Wilson (whose rank I did look up, but apparently white high SES kids do actually get into decent colleges via the academies and so Wilson actually counts ).
