What is the reason why black students in Alexandria perform even worse than Hispanic students with a language barrier? Are they really that much worse off financially? Seems hard to believe.
Lack of hope for many, perhaps the majority. Hope for a well paying job, a way out of poverty, some respect. Lack of duo parenting, usually done by moms/grandmoms whose shoulders are broad but tired and can't participate the way PTA wishes they would. While many ACPS minorities engage in after school sports, you either make the team or you don't and many don't or are cut for GPA sustained <2.0 (school for thought here.) Drug culture (not just pot) involving money making. Sadly, the Hispanic score being higher may reflect the higher percentage of Hispanics who drop out and thus don't take the SAT.
