My synagogue has the bar mitzvah family pay for the kid dish for the congregation. The kid rush doesn't have to be extravagant. It can be simple and inexpensive. At the synagogue I grew up going to, the kid rush was a few cakes, challah, and wine. At my friend's synagogue, a bunch of members pitch in and bring food for a luncheon after the service. Each synagogue is different.[/quote]
