So are all you lap-seaters making the argument that your arms can safely hold a child in unexpected, violent movements of the plane? So why put them in a car seat in a car if carrying a kid in your arms is safe? Apples and oranges. Air travel is safer than cars in general, but children can become projectiles in a bad situation. The FAA may allow lap children, but they don't recommend it at all.
Your child would be safer if she wore a helmet at all times. There is always a risk of head injury from accidents, falls, objects falling. Do you have her wear a helmet at all times to minimize that risk or do you take that risk that you won't protect her head at all times from head injuries even though you could?
