Santa Barbara was a party school when I was at uc.  I don't think it is that way anymore but as you can see from this thread there is still that reputation.  In my California high school, the best students went to ucb, ucla and ucd respectively.  I will say though that within California successful people are generally from the top four ucs.  That's not to say I don't know successful ucsb alums (I was married to one) but I don't know as many in my field. That being said I do know many ucb grads who work at coffee shops and the local whole foods so to me, the name of the school doesn't mean much. In general, uc grads do well.  Ucs in general are well regarded in CA.[/quote]
