Ugh.  I read about a book a week and in my entire life, I've probably only quit reading a dozen books without finishing them, or at least skimming to the end.  I had to put down The Shoemaker's Wife about 1/3 in.  It was truly awful--I do not understand all the rave reviews it go.  Same goes for The Light Between Oceans; I hated it but finished hoping that something would redeem it in the end.

Recent favorites: Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgeral, Therese Anne Fowler; Life After Life, Kate Atkinson; The Good House, Ann Leary; City of Women, David Gillham; The Aviator's Wife, Melanie Benjamin; Shine Shine Shine, Lydia Netzer (this one's quirky and I can see how people might hate it).  All of Louise Erdrich's novels.  Mary Coin, which was recommended on here.  And I'll second The Interestings and The Fault in Our Stars.

Young adult novels are a total guilty pleasure of mine--I really liked Graceling, Daughter of Smoke and Bone (not so much the sequel to this one, though, the name of which escapes me), and the Delirium series.  [/quote]
