Because I need a dog to do a specific thing. I don't want nor will I have a random, ill bred and poorly raised shelter animal. Why do you keep having children when there are homeless ones?
This is comparing apples to oranges. And grapes. The reason people want their own children is because of the genetic component. No one can be genetically linked to their pet. Not even Snoop Dog. Or Lion. Or whatever. Anyway, later down the line, if someone has a health issue and needs a bone marrow transplant or something, having a blood relative, ideally your own child can save one's life. You sound like you only like specific animals. Like shelter animals are nothing but dirty cast-offs. This is an uneducated and unfeeling sentiment. It's because of disgusting folks like you that shelter animals are dying by the hundreds. No living creature is perfect. If you want a perfect pet, get a stuffed animal.
This has to be one of the strangest turns on a thread that I've seen on DCUM. For the original poster, most people don't adopt "homeless" children, because most "homeless" children are homeless with their parents, and while they need lots of things adoption isn't on the list. For the second PP, there are lots of reasons why someone might choose to give birth to children, rather than adopting. Some people want a genetic link. Some people want the experience of carrying and nursing a child. Many people want to raise a child from early infancy, and recognize that in this country there are not many infants in need of homes. Some people can't afford the financial costs of adoption. However, I don't think I've ever met someone who chose to have children for "spare parts" in case they got ill.
