I am 42 and 8 weeks pregnant. Have my first OB appointment at 9 weeks. Will the doc automatically do these tests or do I have to specifically ask for them? And are these tests done at the doc office or do you have to go some place special?
I am 41 and for me, my OB referred me to a Perinatalogist for my ultrasound (at 12 weeks). Based on my age, my OB wanted me to see a specialist (the Peri) rather than a regular ultrasound technician. As it was my first appointment and based on my age, the Peri's office had me meet with a genetic counselor before I ever met with the doctor. My husband and I decided which tests to do after meeting with the counselor, then proceeded on with the Peri (for the tests and the ultrasound). Based on my initial meeting with the Peri, it was determined that I needed to come in every 3-4 weeks for ultrasounds (this is in addition to my regular OB visits). Good luck to you!
Thanks for this advice! I will definitely take it.
