It could also be MRSA, which can start out looking like a bug bite without the itching. But then it swells rapidly and pus collects in there. Oh, and it hurts like h*ll. The pus should be tested to rule out staph. If it continues to swell or the pain increases (with staph that will happen very quickly - over the course of a day) I would see a doctor.
 Nearly every skin infection you can get is a kind of staph. MRSA is a kind of staph that is resistant to antibiotics. Most staph infections are not MRSA. I would worry about it being MRSA unless it doesn't respond to home treatment.
Um, I know exactly what MRSA is...perhaps your post was to edify those who do not. Both my then 2 yo AND my sister have had MRSA. My sister described something similar to what OP described over the phone a few years ago. Based on what she said, I suggested that she go in ASAP to have it checked. Well, she thought I was over reacting. By that same evening she could barely walk and the skin looked as if it would burst with pus. She said it was extremely painful when the doctor drained it and she wished she had gone in earlier before it progressed. Sheesh! I so wish that the snarky people of DCUM would have a sense of decorum when posting to these boards. You don't have to rip a post apart (complete with eye rolls!) just because your opinion differs.
