If you can afford it what a great way for the next generation to learn about other cultures and the world. Will help them negotiate/adapt to globalization.
College student here, (went to London last year and now returning again next year for grad school) and I just wanted to share that all of my scholarships, loans, and even 529 transferred over to my semester abroad. In the end, the school I chose wound up having cheaper tuition/room than my US school, so there was actually some savings in that regard (though we chose to funnel that back in towards extra travel through Europe). So I just wanted to encourage everyone not to rule it out right off the bat from the perception that it is financially out of reach. Definitely have your kids talk with their schools Study Abroad and Financial Aid advisors to help figure it all out.
Some of us poors had to stay in the darn US for all of college :( worst thing imaginable! Luckily now I have an MA and a job!! But golly if I had rich parents and fancy rich people scholarships, Lord Jesus knows I would have been soooo much better off! :) :)
Please don't hijack this tread. If you have a political statement to make go to the Political forum. If you are just blowing wind, go to the Off-Topic Forum. Thank you.
