I would hope that my child would just love the person for who they are and try to appreciate and learn about his/her partner's background and culture and embrace it (not ignore it) and vice versa. Anyone who has issue with that, let it roll off their backs as it is not their problem (this includes any family who has issues!) Oddly, my own mother sort of always tried to subtly warn that I should not try to date people from wealthy backgrounds as I would "not fit" or maybe my family wouldn't fit in "that world" because they are working class/lower middle class immigrants. Kind of hard to do at my preppy private college (academic scholarship). I think that was about her insecurity that she would "lose" me to a better off family as an adult though.[/quote]
