I’m a parent who was there. The kid did receive his certificate, walked across the stage and shook everyone’s hand just like every student. What happened was at the end they read off each student’s name and said when they entered the school. His name was accidentally left off. No one wants their kid to be missed. But he did get a certificate and hand shakes like every other student there.
That’s pretty messed up. I hope they profusely apologized.
I’ll raise you one. My son missed his 6th grade promotion due to getting Covid and the teacher didn’t even call his name or acknowledge him in any way at the ceremony.
I suppose you have never been to a high school graduation in FCPS? They do not call out the names of absent kids. This is not unique in school ceremonies across the country. Why do think they should call his name if he is absent? Were you there and expecting to get his certificate on his behalf?
First of all, it’s 6th grade and not an actual graduation with 1,000s of kids. I suspect they don’t read absent names at a real graduation due to time constraints. There was no reason not to acknowledge him at this promotion ceremony, considering it was not his fault he couldn’t go.
