People who back into spaces are the worst for hitting cars. Yet they keep trying to back in spaces.
You're wrong. Backing into perpendicular spaces is much safer, especially now that most cars have backup cameras: you're backing into a space where nothing is moving. Then you pull out into the active area with full visibility. I've never seen someone hit another car doing this, but I've seen plenty of people backing out without being able to see what's coming and colliding with another vehicle. OP I live on a narrow street in a dense part of the city, with parking on both sides, and I see these little scrapes happen pretty often. Two cars can pass each other, but they have to be careful. A car going too fast will try to move over for a car going the opposite direction, or to get around an uber or delivery vehicle just stopped in the middle of the street (a massive peeve for another thread), and scuff a parked car. No one ever stops to leave a note. This is why I spend the minimum possible on a safe, reliable car. I live in the city. It's a foregone conclusion that it's going to get dinged.
