Unfortunately physical and mental health in our general population had declined, so did overall culture. People are just not robust, especially younger generations conditioned by electronics and social media. IQ can only get you this far if you don't thrive in corporate culture which had become much worse and cut-throat over the last 3 decades. If you have a high IQ but cannot keep a job or don't have grit to run a business you can easily end up on skid row and on drugs, unless you have parents to rescue you and provide that proverbial basement bedroom.
