UChicago ED1 from private. 3.72 when he applied which was about near the middle of the class. It's a high school that is very hard to get into .. so middle of the class is still pretty strong. 1550 SAT
Further evidence that everything is school dependent. Yours was in a different boat. Not applicable to the facts here it doesn't look like.
Not applicable? I dont know how we know if OP's DC is in a rigorous public or not. I think it comes down to the application. My kid had an academic pointy resume with national awards to prove it. Had elected-by-peers school leadership. Had the test scores, single seating. Had teachers who knew how to write LORs. Was really taught how to write in his school so essays were great. Had a robust naviance that allowed him to could see what was possible and what wasn't. Had a string of self-studied 5s on APs - the school doesn't offer APs. Really the only thing he didnt have was the GPA, but did have an upward trajectory and a story that backed it up by guidance counselor (didn't come into the high school from strong k-8 so really struggled in 9th). I think you have to see your own kid holistically too. Don't count them out because one metric isn't good. But sure, a lot of the private school machine helps in this process, from strong writing courses to naviance data
