The district continues to respond to a massive cybersecurity incident involving Canvas, the platform that powers myMCPS Classroom. Although the vendor, Instructure, reports that core services have been restored, and some universities and school districts are reconnecting to Canvas, MCPS is not. Here is why: At this time, we do not yet have sufficient assurance from the vendor, along with the level of communication and verification we would expect, to confidently restore the system for widespread use. Out of an abundance of caution, MCPS technology and cybersecurity staff will continue to carefully review system integrity and assess any potential vulnerabilities before restoring access.

Our current plan is to restore access for teachers later Sunday and into Monday so educators can review files, access instructional materials, and prepare for learning activities. Throughout Monday, MCPS will continue evaluating the system to determine whether it is safe to restore student access.

We know this outage has created frustration and inconvenience for students, staff, and families, and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience. Despite these challenges, teaching and learning continue in MCPS. [/quote]
