Teacher here. Math 7 Honors is Math 8 - they will take the Math 8 SOL at the end of the course. This is the consecutive path for the accelerated math: Advanced Math 3: Math 3 SOL (Basically Math 3 curriculum with AAP Extensions) Advanced Math 4: Math 4 SOL (Basically Math 4 curriculum with AAP Extensions) Advanced Math 5: Math 6 SOL (Math 6 curriculum with AAP Extensions) Advanced Math 6: Math 7 SOL (Math 7 curriculum with AAP Extensions) Math 7 Honors: Math 8 SOL (Prealgebra curriculum) To skip Math 7 Honors/Math 8 is already skipping a whole year of content. That being said many kids can do it because the Advanced Math 6 teachers are used to preparing kids to take Algebra in 7th. Ask your kid’s teacher. And ask them to be honest. They’ll tell you if your kid can handle it.
Is this still the case? My 7th grader is in regular Math 7 (not honors) and being pushed into Algebra next year. It appears we are skipping Math 8/pre-algebra for most kids now.
