But then I would presume a family in that situation would have the other parent go back to work once kids are in school, and they'd be making over 200k, which would be closer to "upper" middle class. But a two income family with kids at 133k is barely hanging on. If kids are young and they are paying for full-time childcare, they may be struggling to pay for housing. It would be hard to save anything for college on that income unless you had a way to get housing costs down or made big compromises anywhere. Housing + food + transportation is going to eat up most of your income.[/quote]
