Armed guards make you feel unsafe? You should feel just the opposite. Faux outrage anyway.
I belong to a country club - it is a private, exclusive space. I would similarly feel uneasy if my club started hosting events that made it necessary to have people walking around with sidearms. This isn't a cop on a street corner - keep the events more selective and keep a level of civility in your facility.
There is nothing exclusive or private about the St James so your analogy doesn't make sense. The basketball tourney organizers are 100% concerned with people paying and think "armed security" will prevent scofflaws. No one is unsafe at a kids basketball game.
It's a private facility. They can choose not to rent to people for any reason. This isnt a city or county facility. That's the very definition of a private facility. Just like you don't have to rent out a room in your house if you don't want to.
Its a private commercial facility trying to make as much money as possible. Open to the public as long as you pay whatever fee they are charging. Which is very different from a country club.
