I belong to a country club - it is a private, exclusive space. I would similarly feel uneasy if my club started hosting events that made it necessary to have people walking around with sidearms. There is nothing exclusive or private about the St James so your analogy doesn't make sense.

The basketball tourney organizers are 100% concerned with people paying and think "armed security" will prevent scofflaws. No one is unsafe at a kids basketball game.[/quote]

It's a private facility. They can choose not to rent to people for any reason. This isnt a city or county facility. That's the very definition of a private facility. Just like you don't have to rent out a room in your house if you don't want to.[/quote]

Its a private commercial facility trying to make as much money as possible. Open to the public as long as you pay whatever fee they are charging. Which is very different from a country club.[/quote]
