Oh it’s bigger vs that. We will leave the region because we can not afford the cost of the bases. How many thousands of interceptors missiles and radars are needed to secure US bases in the gulf? There are 12-13 bases. Minimum needs about 1,000 $12.5 million dollar interceptor missiles per base. So starting price is 12.5 billion. Now add in hardening everything, building bomb proof aircraft hangers, replacing billion dollar radars, etc. Next up is anti drone protection. You will have to double the defense budget just to maintain your bases. Add in we can’t build the interceptor that fast?
Sounds like we need to reduce our oil dependence.
We get 2% of our energy comes from the region. The oil will flow with or without us. Seriously it is in the financial interest of every country in the area. Gulf states will just have to make nice with Iran. It’s not like the oil was not flowing before Israel and the US attacked Iran. All that big talk by Trump’s son in law about gulf states normalizing relations with Israel is done. Let’s get out of the region and be thankful. Too much blood and treasure wasted. Israel will finally have to recognize a Palestinian state.
When our energy prices sky rocket due to our entrance into ME conflicts, it's a sign that we are still in some form or fashion dependent upon oil flowing out of that region regardless of whether or not our current local supply depends on it.
It “skyrocketed” because the US and Israel went to war with Iran. Oil was $55 an oil in January with a world surplus of 2 million barrels a day. No Israel or US and the prices slowly return to that level or lower. This oil shock will force Asia, Europe, South America and Australia to invest in renewable energy and EVs. China has a ton of access capacity in wind, solar, batteries and EVs. This will reduce demand for oil.
