Security deposit on the apartment, deposits to get utility services turned on. I don't know--moving is such a pain, I might take the option where they do everything, especially since you'll be in a new area. You will need furniture, pots, pans, dishware, glassware, serving utensils, tupperware, bathroom rugs, shower curtains, towels, plungers, cleaning supplies, window treatments, lamps, etc. That will cost a pretty penny when you add it all up.
Good thought, PP. And the list you gave on the second paragraph will not be paid by the company if we decided to move. All our pots, pans, glasses, towels, etc are mismatched so the plan was to get rid of everything and buy new at the destination. For the list on the first paragraph, if we take the option to have it done by the moving consultant they give us $2.5K to spend in "extras" and most of the stuff you listed there falls into this category.
