Excellent point - my mistake.   Nevertheless my advice holds.

IMO at 3 and 7 years old - your kids aren't on cruise control - they can change.  So I disagree entirely with "try it and see how it goes".   To the OP - did you take off from work to focus on your family?  Terrific - that's a heck of a sacrifice - and if you're happy with the results, congratulations.    Why throw it away just for a "dream job"?   Your kids are just getting to the point where you're going to have to start "driving the bus" to activities and events - and without mom and dad around, IMO they can regress.   At this point - your kids still need you...and this is the time when they do.  It's far easier to find another dream job, than it is to correct errors (that you could have changed) in raising your children.

Wait till their about 12 - then they will be more independent and more "formed"....they will appreciate the freedom and so will you.   My personal opinion is that 3 and 7 is too soon.

Obviously if you can't afford to do it - you need to make different choices - but it sounds like you are asking 3rd parties when you should be discussing it at home.   We're nameless and faceless strangers who have different circumstances and children.  No "one size fits all".

FWIW - I did what the OP did.  Changed my career from law/IT/Pharmaceuticals as an attorney then President and CEO, and changed to a consultant to a small focused group of companies - but from home.   Less money, less prestige - and a lot of driving the car.  :)  I love it.   But good and great jobs come knocking all the time....but the time to raise our kids is NOW.  That's the most important job of all, IMO.

You have great kids and family now....why mess with success (assuming you can afford it)?  :)  Good luck with your decision.[/quote]
