I assume you are at least 40? The train is not what it was 25 years ago...just because you did it when you are a kid doesn't mean kids today will have a similar experience. Every day something bad is being posted about what happens on the DC Metro. There is no police presence, just people creating problems. I don't think I'd let my kid ride it alone until she was a teenager.[/quote]

I'll agree that Paris is not DC.

But the overall safety of the DC metro is similar to or better than it was 25 years ago. It's certainly way safer than it was in the 1990s.

My kids rode from Union Station to downtown for school starting in 5th. During those hours, the stations and nearby areas are full of people. It would be different if they were traveling at stations or during times when they were more likely to be on near-empty trains, or would have to walk through deserted streets.[/quote]
