At the end of the lunch, they told us they had Norovirus last week -- and lost 4 pounds - ha ha! I have extreme health anxiety around that illness and am trying not to spiral. How worried should I be? Anything I can do to strengthen my immune system, beyond handwashing?
Try taking some wedderspoon manuka honey. It kind of helps with illness that comes from GI or respiratory issues. Go do salt gargle. Drink lots of warm liquids - lemon water, turmeric milk, green tea, chicken soup. Change the ph of your body by doing some breathing exercises. (Tummo Breathing - school of breath) Soak in hot baths.
None of this will do a single thing to help, this is such an odd list of advice. OP you don’t give much of a timeline but if it was “last week” and you’re still not sick you’re good to go.
You are an idiot. These are go-to for any kind of illness or exposure. The warm liquids and hot soaks are based on Chinese medicine and many other cultures. It helps to raise body temperature and create a fake "fever" to kill pathogens. In any case, it lowers your pathogen/viral load. Hyderation is extremly important to combat and recover from Norovirus. Manuka honey, turmeric and salt gargles - many kinds of alternative medicines and western scientifically tested methods to kill or flush out pathogens. Curcumin in turmeric is effective against Norovirus according to NIH. Please, start Same for using breath manipulation to change the ph in your lungs for short durations. Also, strengthens your lungs and sends more oxygen to combat pathogens. You could also take warm showers and take zinc lozenges and multi-vitamins. Does it help with Norovirus? No, but there are always pathogens in our bodies and you are making your body overall healthier to combat Norovirus. Remember, unless the viral load of norovirus is high enough to overwhelm your immune system, your body can usually fight the norovirus.
DP. If Chinese medicine is so great, why did Covid and SARS originate there and why weren't these superior methods able to contain it? And changing body pH is unscientific garbage. The body has many mechanisms to tightly regulate pH to stay within an extremely narrow range around 7.4, because if it doesn't stay in this range, the consequences are seizures, coma, and death. The only method to make it deviate from this range for any length of time is to become extremely sick, such as septic shock, kidney failure, or DKA. You can hold your breath or hyperventilate if you want, but all that will do is make you dizzy or pass out. In which case you will be vomiting anyway from the concussion you get hitting your head on the way down, and your pH will still be 7.4.
