If the program you’re applying to says there’s a mandatory summer program for incoming freshmen but won’t have the dates until April and you’ve already paid for a summer program elsewhere, has there been flexibility in the past on “mandatory?” DC really wants to attend if they get an offer but we are past refund dates for their existing program. Trying to set expectations and figure out if this is a question we ask if we get a family interview.
The summer intensives are generally in June, tending toward later in the month. The actual weeks that will be "mandatory" for your pre-frosh will depend on their department. The website should have info on when the intensives took place in previous years. Also, depending on your department, there may be some flexibility if the camp you're signed up for overlaps with the department. Last year our instrumental music kid was excused from a portion of the DESA intensive because they were already at band camp. Definitely ok to ask about this in the family interview.
