Our kids went to a Title 1 elementary and then a "W" HS (we moved). While I had a lot of agita in the early years about their education and their classmates, I am glad we did public in the elementary years as I don't think private gets you and further academically, but is a nicer environment. For HS, I wish we had moved the kids to private.
Could you expand on why you wished you moved for private?
My DD graduated last year. While she had a good HS experience in the sense that she had a lot of friends and enjoyed being in a big school, academically, I don't think she was challenged at all. In English classes, I don't think they were ever assigned more than 4 books a year, and even then, they did not read the entire book. I am pretty sure that she never had to write a paper longer than 2-3 pages. She was not at all engaged by anything she learned and just coasted yet got all As yet her SATs were mediocre and AP scores were 2s 3s and 4s.
