Then there are income-driven repayment plans where the balance is forgiven after 20 or 25 years of payments (depending the plan). There’s military loan forgiveness. Discharge for disability (including automatic discharge of anyone rated 100% permanently and totally disabled by the VA). There’s teacher loan forgiveness. Closed school discharge. The list goes on.
