I was raised by vote blue no matter who people- What I surmise is leaders of Democratic Party lost touch with the people. We don’t care about environmental shit and we don’t care about LGBTQ issues. What we do care about is being able to live out our own American dreams in real life. The Democratic Party chose to pander and platform the wrong people. Don’t get me wrong- I hate Trump. But I also didn’t vote for KH.
I totally disagree. The Democrats I know care very much about the environment and rights for everyone. LGBTQ issues took center stage because Republicans put them there to rile up their own base. If anyone expected Democrats to agree with Republicans that not all people have the same human rights, then that person doesn't understand the party.
First of all, the fact that “the Democrats you know” share an opinion, does not mean they are representative of Democrats you don’t know, much less the general population. If everyone around you is agreeing with you, you should probably seek out other people who have different perspectives. Secondly, while in a party as large as the Republicans (or Democrats), you will find some people who want to deprive others of human rights, I think that the vast majority of voters (regardless of affiliation) want human rights to be respected, but they may differ on how they define those rights and consequently, how they think human rights are best protected. I don’t think Trump cares about human rights (by any definition), as he is only motivated by self-interest, as are the Republican sycophants who support him despite knowing better. MAGA voters/cultists have been too brainwashed by their idolatry to think rationally, but they couldn’t have elected Trump by themselves. The fact is that most of the voters who put Trump into office (many of whom had previously voted for Biden and Obama) felt that the Democratic platform in 2024 did not represent them (and yes, as previously stated, anyone should have known that Trump, caring only for himself, wouldn’t either). Democrats can continue to embrace positions that the general public doesn’t and demonize them for disagreeing with your take on human rights, but that’s unlikely to win over their votes to put Democrats into power where they can support whatever human rights however they wish. Or you can take an alternate route, listen to what the voters want, support the issues you can agree with, and give them the latitude to disagree on other issues without turning them into your enemy. The Democrats seem to have the voting dynamic backwards. They seem to think it is the voters duty to serve the candidate by giving them their vote, rather than remembering that the representative should be the public SERVANT, who should earn votes by serving the public interest.
The swing voters who elected Trump did it because they were hurting from inflation. All exit polling confirms this. The culture war nonsense you’re alluding to was a non-factor.
PP here and I completely agree. That was actually the point I was trying to make, apparently ineffectively. Democrats need to listen to what voters care about (like inflation) and address those concerns instead of claiming moral superiority as the champions of human rights and demonizing anyone who doesn’t vote for them as opposing human rights.
