My son received his Echols letter of acceptance Friday afternoon/evening. I would love to hear about people’s experiences in the program as he’s currently undecided on where to attend.
My daughter is Echols. First year Echols dorm in Balz-Dobiie (newer dorm; centrally located), although student can opt out. My daughter tells me that the director/professor of the program is very well-organized, accessible and as sweet as can be. Echols Scholars are offered a wide variety of events, tours, get-togethers, networking and volunteer/committee opportunities, and so much more - all exclusive to Echols. Beyond the benefit of early course registration, Echols are exempt from general education/distribution requirements which is huge. My daughter, who is a second-year now, is on track to graduate a year early with two majors and a minor, with her “primary” major being a distinguished major and her 4th year will be a Masters. Echols also have the option of designing their own major. Lots of flexibility. We’re big fans of UVA. This school is the full package.
