According to the school calendar, March 20 (which is a professional development day for teachers) is marked as a contingency day for snow. Place your bets on whether MCPS uses that as a learning day…. I really wish they would. But bet the chances are slim to none….
Thanks for wishing away our holiday
Take your holiday. But let the rest of students who aren’t celebrating go to school and not have their summer taken away.
Listen, March 20 is not my holiday either. But when you decide to hold school on these holidays, not only do the kids who celebrate have an impossible choice between missing instruction and the complexity of having to make it up, juggling studying and hw with religious and family obligations, and extracurricular activities not allowing absence without consequence (sports coaches are notorious for this). Honestly it probably doesn’t matter for ES & MS, but for HS it can be tricky. I am not sure whether a half day would properly allow those who celebrate to do so, but if it would, I think that would be a good compromise.
