I was a student at a TT back in the day who discovered UrbanBaby from some random Google browsing. Now I am a parent, still in NYC, with kids in the school system. Been very fascinating to reflect on the journey to this point as so much of the stuff on UB made no sense to me as a teenager (but was nonetheless fascinating to read).
I'd be interested to know what topics attracted your attention. I used to read the WSJ's "Juggle" blog about work-life balance before I had kids, but I was in my 30s. There was an interesting set of online friends (username but anonymous) who shared suggestions and life news in the comments. Anyone here remember that?
PP here. Just the incessant parent talk about TT prestige and insecurity that seemed to abound about life was fascinating. The relationship talk about broken marriages as well was fun to read but made no sense at the time. I was quite middle class on good financial aid with two parents who both worked 9-5 and made dinner every night so it didn't make sense. I also didn't find school to be stressful and graduated on to HYP with a smooth glide path. No tutors, pressure from parents, or life path laid out. Years later now as a high-earning parent some of this makes more sense, and some of it still brings a chuckle because I don't really care about the rat race. But I've come to understand the immense tradeoff in time some high-earning professions demand on parents, and why it leads to stress and consequences.
