For a child who was accepted in K at a big 3 school and parents were asked to complete a neuropsych midyear after frequent communication and then asked to medicate midyear in first for learning and behavior after more frequent communication…Is this a precursor to counseling out?
Is the medication and other supports helping? If yes, you're probably fine. If no, you should talk to psychiatrist about adjusting meds and/or consider other schools. Even if you aren't counseled out, reevaluate for yourselves whether it's a good fit school. You chose it when you knew almost nothing about your child's academic needs -- as you learn more, don't be afraid to make changes. We're in HS at a big 3, and I feel bad for the lifers who are clearly struggling but who are there because that's where their parents chose 10 years ago.
Meds will start in second half of first because supports were not enough. One parent attended the school with a different LD and believed small classes would help counter challenges that preschool saw since preschool didn’t think the school would be a good fit for child’s profile. What is the next step if medication is not successful or not successful enough in first grade?
