Problem with RHES is it is basically all the low income apts on 16th street and East West Highway. It is a completely different vibe than the entire rest of the cluster and one that many felt they paid a premium to avoid. It is the group pulling down CCES, Silver Lake and BCCs test score. That said many parent don't want to send their kids during their formative years to that environment which is fair. Many join later when that peer group begins to get out numbers at later stages and doesn't define the environment, many of the really affluent parents never do public school because of it. Chevy Chase has the highest Private participation in the county
This is just nonsense except to illustrate the dynamic the previous poster was talking about. The whole point of the split articulation model is that it takes from a wide geographic area— from the Town of Chevy Chase almost all the way to Silver Spring. No group of kids or single neighborhood “defines the environment” and not wanting your kids to go school with some kids who are browner (and/or poorer) is just racism, which is actually the opposite of being fair. Many really affluent parents — wherever they live in the county— don’t do public because they’ve convinced themselves rightly or wrongly private school is a good use for their money.
