The Merchant Marine Academy is a service academy.  There are officially five service academies.  The midshipmen at the Merchant Marine Academy are offically in the reserves, instead of active duty like the other four academies, but there is a similar admissions process (although the Coast Guard Academy doesn't require a nomination) and a service requirement after graduation.[/quote]
