Last year, my daughter was deferred and then waitlisted. 9 months of uncertainty for something that never came through.
Been there, done that except with a happy ending. Two years ago, my daughter was deferred then waitlisted at Cornell. At the end of June, she was offered a transfer option which was basically a guaranteed sophomore entrance if she met a certain gpa. She took it and is now a sophomore there. That spring of senior year was really long and painful. If a school is not going to offer a transfer option like Cornell does, then they need to just reject any ED/REA deferrals in March.
