Because of the appeals process and the current posture of this administration, I doubt regular telework comes back anytime soon. It is best to accept this and move on. The union does other things to help sec employees- especially with the compensation agreement. I also heard a rumor that several divisions are allowing adhoc telework around the holidays. I guess to encourage people to work and use less leave.
Doesn’t that violate the EO? I re-read the EO and don’t see any exception for “the holidays.”
The EO also says department and agency heads shall make exemptions they deem necessary, so that could be anything really.
So then why don’t they just allow pre COVID telework posture? Instead of pretending that their “hands are tied” by the EO?
Because they don't want to, and the president doesn't want them to. Obviously. I really wonder about some of the questions asked on here. Even ignoring animosity toward feds, employers don't want employees to have the schedule perks of predictable teleworking, but they do want the employer upside of constant availability and extra hours. This isn't hard to understand.
I disagree. I think everyone at the sec, or at least the vast majority, except for Atkins, is in favor of a reasonable amount of telework. Pre-covid levels would probably be the middle ground nearly everyone, again except for Atkins, can agree on. This really is just an issue of Atkins being a Trump sycophant who does not care about the long-term strength of the agency.
Atkins hates telework independent of what Trump/Vought is telling him to do. He is just old and thinks everyone should be in the office every day because thats how he did it. And he doesnt care about what anyone else thinks so we are where we are.
