I don't understand why families from the poorest communities in the Crofton cluster think they're above sending their kids to Arundel. They are low-class for Arundel cluster standards as well. Two Rivers, Chapel Grove, The Preserves at Severn Run, Stonegate Forest, Saddlebrook, and parts of Piney Orchard are much wealthier. Ever since Crofton got their own high school they've been trying to convince the public that they're another Severna Park or Broadneck, but where are the water privileged communities and multi-million dollar waterfront homes in Crofton? It's just a bunch of townhomes and split levels that all look the same on a golf course that looks like it was built by Wal Mart.
It’s not about anyone being “too good” for anything. It’s about keeping kids with their peers and the teachers and coaches they trust and know and love. Nantucket Elementary kids go to CMS and CHS plays, musicals, concerts and sporting events. They’ve watched their older siblings, neighbors and babysitters go to CMS and CHS. It’s just the culture of the neighborhoods that make up Nantucket Elementary. And now, the vast majority of NES students will have to say goodbye to the friends they’ve had not just in elementary school, but in local daycares, Scout groups, churches, etc. ALL of Nantucket should stay together, as a cohort, from elementary through middle and high school. My kids aren’t directly affected, but a lot of their dear friends are being separated from them, and it’s genuinely painful. It doesn’t make sense, especially given that it does not actually solve overcrowding problems, it just kicks the problems down the road. Literally.
