Back when I had my first [used] car in the 1980s, I had to regularly check the oil level and even top off the oil if it was too low. Cars these days rarely leak oil like that, and even if they do, the little oilcan light comes on to let me know. So, no, I do not check the oil level of my 2020s car.
If the oil light comes on, it is a critical situation and your engine could soon or has already been damaged. If you dont check your oil regularly and that light comes on, you failed as an owner.
Welcome to the 21st century. Cars are now filled with little computers monitoring the status of every system. I literally get a text message when my tire pressure is low. If there's even a hint of a problem with the oil level or the engine, it lets me know before any damage has occurred. We are long past the days of daily oil checks on your hand-me-down Chevy Impala.
