My child is at Franklin and was assigned a locker. But they don’t let students go to the lockers during key times of the day so it’s pointless. Not happy.
What do you mean? My child (at Franklin) goes to her locker on her way to her first class, after recess, and at the end of the day. Her locker isn’t in the same zone as most of her classes (her locker is in the yellow zone and she only has one class-- Spanish-- in that zone), but she is still able to go three times each day. Her English, history, and Advisory classes are in the blue zone, science is in the green zone, and math is in the orange zone. I honestly cannot remember which zone her computer class is in. When our son was there, the computer class was in the blue zone but I can't remember if that's where it is now.
My child says she isn’t allowed to go to her locker before recess so she must bring out her backpack and laptop and store them on the ground outside in all sorts of weather. Ridiculous. She also isn’t allowed to put her lunchbox away in her locker after lunch - she has gotten yelled at by teachers that she should not be at the lockers.
I bet the lunchbox issue is because she has one of the first lunches and it could be disruptive to other classes if kids are at their lockers after lunch while other kids are in class. My guess. My child doesn't go to her locker before recess, but she does go after recess. She only ever has to carry her computer, a small binder, her book, and her lunchbox to classes. She only has to switch out her stuff once in the middle of the day. These kids carry a lot less than we did when we were in school! We had to carry binders and textbooks for every class, and we had seven classes every day! We didn't have computers, but our textbooks definitely weighed a lot more than a Chromebook.
It’s ridiculous and bad for the computer to have to bring it outside for recess in all kinds of weather. Not letting kids store it in their lockers for recess is a huge issue. Now my child’s backpack is dirty from sitting on the ground daily outside.
A dirty backpack? The horror! Why doesn't your kid put her backpack on one of the blacktop areas or the picnic tables?
Why can’t she store it in the locker she was assigned? Also, having computers out in hot or cold weather isn’t good for the screens. Make it make sense.
