Most parents (and kids) around here think if they sign with a college team that is the prize. And I guess that is the pursuit for many. But the harsh reality is that more than half will not finish college on that team. And many of these players are the club standouts we see being celebrated right now. It will be harsh reality for many of them. All I can say is choose wisely.
Parents are generally not realistic with what level their daughters can actually play and have some success...this is outside of all the other factors that go into it. And in fairness to many girls who go on to play in college there are injuries, better players in front of them at a specific position, struggles mentally on and off the field with confidence...on and on it goes. Some club coaches are totally honest with parents and their daughters and they simply don't listen or refuse to be honest about it. If you start with a realistic base you have a chance at success. I have heard over and over again about the girls who committed at elite soccer schools from other parents, "How did she get recruited there? She will never play there".
