I have a very basic question. How do folks manage carpools with the need for car seats? My car only fits two car seats, and I have two kids, one of whom is still in a rear-facing infant seat. Do families just install/reinstall car seats all the time for carpool and then reinstall yet again to get the car ready for the family?
I'm afraid your car doesn't make you a very good candidate for a carpool. At our school, many of the families who share rides have minivans or they have older children who can just jump in the car without car seats. We can fit 4 kids in our van plus one in the front. That's where my middle schooler sits if we need to take him anywhere and already have a car load of kids. Our toddler's car seat always remains installed and latched in place, and the others sit in boosters or regular seats. We do drop off in the morning -- we get two more kids on the way to school and the other family does pick up after school. An added benefit? We never run late for school because I know another family is counting on us and I don't want those kids to be tardy on account of us!
