It would have been nice to see if Fairfax could have played against some of the state's best (other than West Springfield). In perhaps the program's best year ever, Fairfax (2nd to WSHS) lost to the Spartans three times ... and it would have been tough to beat them in a fourth contest had they met in the regional final. Unfortunately, West Potomac eliminated FHS in the regional semifinal match. One of the FHS starters had been out the entire postseason with an ankle injury. Would have been nice to see strength-on-strength against WestPo ... and potentially WSHS, but injuries happen. Without checking the win-loss records, I think WSHS has only lost two matches all season (one of those to Langley, I think). They are balanced across the front row, making it easy for their setter to pick opponents apart. No one player outperforms the others as they are all solid. It wouldn't surprise me if they win the state title and make a deep run next year. I witnessed Colgan lose to Oakton ... and ?Flint Hill? ... at a tournament earlier in the season. Not sure how good they are against capable opponents. As far as club representation among some of the remaining HS teams, WSHS has current and former Paramount players in the lineup. I think Patriot has a few VAJRS players, as does Potomac Falls (at least one). Riverside and Madison have Metro and VAJRS. I suspect that there are players representing other clubs, but I just don't know all the affiliations firsthand.
I was surprised Fairfax good this year and is disappointing could not get into states, agree probably the most successful team they ever had at least in my memory. WSHS probably needs to test themselves in a tournament other than Titan Clash next year against superior opponents, their schedule is weak with their conference teams level not high. Last year they had one of the best players in the state and were swept by Langley in first round of states, would have helped to lose some competitive matches against good teams early in season in my opinion.
