So while I haven’t been to Bora Bora, the issue is the hotels suck. Every one of them has serious downsides and for the amount you pay, I want no downsides. St Regis - probably best overall but desperately needs a renovation. Conrad - not best views and not on good coral. Food isn’t as good as the StR Westin - brand new, probably best hard product currently but not a real luxury resort Four Seasons - hard product starting to age and significant issues with termites If you are set on a beachy, tropical vacation like this I’d consider South Caicos.
You haven’t been there, but seem to have a lot to say…
I had a trip booked there and canceled it. I’ve done what can only be described as insanity-levels amount of research.
It’s not the same as firsthand experience.
Cool. Please tell us about your firsthand experiences.
Bora Bora is remote. Yes, things will be more expensive (remote destinations, especially islands often are). Value for experience, some people will find the accommodations do not meet their expectations. Go to Bora if you want to feel like you are a world away, and if the vacation you want is one where you unplug and relax. Also a great destination if you want to do two islands (a lot of divers will go to Bora to unwind before or after a dive trip to Rangiroa). Greece is a better destination for people who want a vacation with a lot to do, particularly people who feel recharged after a busy trip. Both destinations can be great, but how a traveler perceives them will depend on what the traveler is trying to do in the first place.
