https://thewallace.com/ This is a lovely and quiet hotel in my neighborhood. It has a chic and cozy lounge, and it’s near the subway, restaurants, and the parks.
Thank you - great suggestion.
If you do choose this, some neighborhood highlights that are off the beaten path . . . • Riverside Park---it's a block from the hotel, and has river views and a quieter vibe than Central Park • NY Historical Society---an interesting museum without the crowds of it's neighbor, AMNH, and it has a nice gift shop and a lovely restaurant for lunch • If you're there on a Sunday, there is a longstanding flea market at 77th & Columbus Ave in the public school playground and cafeteria . . . and some restaurant suggestions (it's not the best restaurant destination, but there are some of my favorites) . . . • Owls Tail---creative cocktail lounge, reservations usually required • Red Farm---popular and bustling farm-to-table asian that's close to The Wallace • Pig & Khao---Filipino inspired fusion with a downtown vibe and younger crowd • Cafe Luxembourg---an UWS classic, old-school bistro with flattering lighting • Nice Matin---another bistro-style restaurant, great wine list • Friend of a Farmer---farm-to-table in a cozy and upscale setting • Sempre Oggi---more farm-to-table, this in a contemporary setting with Italian influences • Layla---Turkish cuisine that's really delicious and a little different than the typical Mediterranean menu, cute dining area in a brownstone • Sushi Ishikawa---outrageously delicious omakase in a speakeasy-style space that seats only a dozen or so people • Elea---Greek, very good, very busy • Osteria Accademia---Italian with a cute dining room that feels like a library • Spiga---no frills setting, excellent Italian food, accommodating and friendly owners • Tasca---Latin fusion, great service • Joe's Steam Rice Rolls---absolute hole in the wall, but it's do-not-miss for an inexpensive and satisfying lunch (tip--the sauces are the bomb) • Mama's Too---some claim it's the best pizza in NYC, but beware that it's not your typical NYC slice if you want that . . . and for coffee, dessert, etc. . . . • Salt & Straw---ice cream is all the rage up here right now, and this one stands out • Gentile---if you prefer gelato • La Farine Pâtisserie--for coffee and croissants • Billy's Bakery---for cupcakes (I prefer it to Magnolia Bakery, but that's also an option) • Janie's pie cookies---tiny basement storefront is easy to miss, but the pie cookies are different and delicious • Levain---if you must, but I don't care for those viral cookies • Solid State Coffee---independent neighborhood gem that stands out amongst tons of coffee chains
