This stuff is highly industry specific. I took 3 years working extremely part time (like 15 hours a month), and then went back to 80%. It was like I didn't take any time off. I make what I did if I had been working full time during those years, and I don't even have a gap in my resume unless someone really takes a detailed look. My sister took 2 years at an internal role in her company where she was still working full time, but had more reasonable, predictable hours. At the end of the two years, she was kind of told that she needed to really step it up or she needed to look elsewhere.
