The schools are settling bc they know they weren’t complying with SFFA. Or Ames, for that matter.
Oh, give me a break. They are settling because they are basically dealing with the mafia.
The above statement is incorrect. The US Government awards a substantial amount of money to universities, including Cornell University, for research and development; the least that Cornell & other recipient universities can do is to comply with federal laws. This is a reasonable and excellent deal for Cornell University in all respects especially from a financial perspective.
https://abcnews.go.com/US/cornell-university-agrees-pay-60m-deal-trump-administration/story?id=127306289 "Similar to the other university leaders, Cornell University President Michael Kotlikoff maintained that it had not done any wrongdoing or broken federal civil rights laws." They paid $30M to get $250M unlocked and did not agree that they did anything wrong. Seems like a shakedown to me. These funds pay people's salaries. This Trump administration doesn't care about people's jobs or even if they starve, if they are on the opposite political side. That is completely evident from the news. Plus Trump loves "deals". So obvious that these are concessions extracted under duress.
