There’s a difference between taking the exam and getting a good score. If the AP exam is the goal, then it makes more sense to take an AP class. Sounds like the OP is trying to avoid prerequisites, but those are put in place so that the AP cores moves at a fast pace because the students don’t see these topics for the first time in their life.
